W połowie 1941 Komendant Główny Armii Krajowej, gen. Stefan Rowecki „Grot”, w poro-zumieniu z biskupem polowym gen. Józefem Gawliną, powołał na Naczelnego Kapelana AK ks. płk Tadeusza Joachimowskiego ps. „Budwicz”. Ks. „Budwiczowi” podlegała cała Służba Duszpasterska AK, którą kierował poprzez wyznaczonych dziekanów obszarów AK.
